Join the Movement: Safely Dispose of Unused Medications This National Drop-Off Month

As National Drop-Off Month approaches, it's time to consider the medications in your home. Unused or expired medications can pose serious risks if they fall into the wrong hands or are disposed of improperly. That's why we're encouraging everyone in Ontario to participate in this important initiative to ensure the safe disposal of medications.

Keeping expired or unused medications at home increases the risk of accidental poisoning and misuse, especially in households with children or pets. Additionally, improper disposal—such as flushing medications down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—can lead to environmental contamination, affecting our water supply and wildlife.

How You Can Help

Participating in National Drop-Off Month is simple:

1. Collect Your Medications: Gather any unused or expired medications from your home. Check your bathroom cabinets, kitchen drawers, and anywhere else you might store medicine.

2. Visit a Participating Pharmacy: Find a local pharmacy participating in the drop-off program. Many pharmacies across Ontario have designated drop-off boxes where you can safely dispose of your medications. Check with your local pharmacy for their participation details.

3. Spread the Word: Encourage friends and family to participate. Share information about National Drop-Off Month on social media and help raise awareness about the importance of proper medication disposal.

Protecting Our Community and Environment

By participating in National Drop-Off Month, you are taking an important step toward protecting our community and environment. Safe disposal of medications helps reduce the risk of accidental poisonings and prevents pharmaceutical contamination in our waterways.

Let's work together to make a positive impact! Join the movement this National Drop-Off Month and help keep our communities safe and healthy.
